A Reliable PDF Converter to Word, No Sign-Up

PDF to Word Document, Not a Picture of One

This PDF to DOCX converter reads the words on the page and rebuilds them as an editable PDF to Word doc — headings stay headings, lists stay lists. Still on an older machine that expects a classic PDF to DOC file? The download works there too: every version of Word made this century opens a .docx without a plugin.

What comes through, honestly

Use this page for a quick PDF convert to Word pass on everyday documents — here's exactly what does and doesn't come through cleanly. A PDF made from a document — exported from Word, saved from a browser, produced by an invoicing tool — carries its text inside it, and that converts well: paragraphs stay paragraphs, headings stay headings, lists stay lists, and the wording comes through letter for letter. That is the everyday case, and it is fast: a couple of pages take about a second.

Complex magazine-style layouts are harder. Multi-column pages, text wrapped around images and heavy tables come through as text you can edit, but expect to tidy the layout afterwards rather than getting a pixel-perfect copy. We would rather tell you that here than let the download surprise you.

Up to 25 pages per file. Longer document? Split it up is the wrong direction — send the first 60, then the rest.

Scanned PDFs need one extra step

A scan is a photograph of text, and a photograph contains no letters to convert — running it through this page would give you an empty document, so we stop it at the door instead and tell you.

The fix is on this same site: the OCR tool reads the pictures and writes a real text layer into the PDF. Run your scan through that first, then drop the result here and it converts like any other PDF.

Not sure which kind you have? Try to select a word in your PDF viewer. If you can, it is text and converts directly. If your cursor draws a box instead, it is a scan — OCR first.

Mostly after the tables in your PDF rather than the text around them? PDF to Excel puts them into a spreadsheet with the numbers in their own cells, one sheet per table.

Free, and nothing is kept

Your PDF is deleted from the server the moment the Word file exists, and the Word file itself is deleted 45 minutes later. Nothing is stored, shared or used to train anything.

There is no account, no watermark and no daily cap. Everything runs on our own servers; the ads on the page keep them online. Your original upload is deleted the moment processing finishes, the cleaned result stays available for up to 45 minutes so you can download it and is then deleted automatically, and nothing is ever sold, shared or used to train AI.

Need the document in another language instead of another format? Translate the PDF — the translation comes back inside the PDF with the layout intact.

Want plain, portable formatting instead of a .docx — for pasting into a wiki or a README? PDF to Markdown keeps the headings and lists without the Word file.

Common questions

How do I convert a PDF to Word for free?

Drop it in above. You get a .docx with the real text — no account, no watermark, no cap.

Will I be able to edit the text?

Yes — that is the point. Paragraphs, headings and lists come through as normal Word text you can rewrite, not as images.

Why does my converted file come back empty elsewhere?

Because your PDF is probably a scan: pictures of text contain no letters. Here we detect that and tell you up front — run the scan through our OCR first, then convert.

Does the layout stay exactly the same?

Simple documents: very close. Multi-column or magazine-style layouts convert to editable text but usually need some tidying — we would rather say that than pretend otherwise.

Is there a page limit?

25 pages per file, 25 MB. That covers almost every report, contract and paper.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

No — remove the password in the app that knows it, then convert the unlocked copy.

What happens to my files?

The PDF is deleted the moment the Word file exists; the Word file is deleted automatically 45 minutes later.

Can I change PDF to Word without installing software?

Yes. There is nothing to download or install, and the .docx is ready in seconds.

What's the best way to convert PDF to Word document formatting without breaking headings?

Keep the source simple: a PDF exported straight from a document (not a scan) carries its structure with it, so headings, lists and paragraph breaks convert as themselves rather than as loose text.
