Translate Text from a Photo OCR, then translate — free

By ShinobiTools Team · Last updated: August 2026

Got a photo of a sign, letter, label or menu in a language you don't read? Drop it in below — OCR pulls the words off your photo, then pick a language right there to get them translated. One tool, no account, no watermark.

1

Read the text off your photo, then translate it

Drop the photo in — OCR reads the words and hands them back as plain, copyable text in a few seconds. Pick a language underneath and press Translate to get that text in another language immediately, right on this page.

2

Need a translated document instead? Keep the layout

The text translator above is enough for most photos. If you need a translated document that keeps the exact page layout (columns, headings, image placement), our PDF translator does that — drop a PDF below, or run a photo through our OCR PDF tool first to add the text layer it needs.

Why is there a second, PDF-only translator?

For plain text, one step is enough: OCR reads your photo and the Translate button turns it into another language right there. The PDF translator below is only for when you need a translated document that keeps the exact page layout — that needs to know where every line and text block sits on the page, which only a PDF carries.

Your files stay on our machine

Both the OCR and the translation run on our own hardware — the OCR engine and the language model are ours, nothing is forwarded to a cloud service. Uploads are processed and discarded right after; a translated PDF is kept for at most 45 minutes so you can download it, then deleted automatically.

Honest about the limits

Only need the words, not a translated document? Our Image to Text tool is step 1 on its own. Need the translated file to keep its exact layout without the OCR detour? Use Translate PDF directly on an existing PDF.

Common questions

How do I translate text extracted from an image?

Drop your photo into the OCR box above — the words appear as plain text in a few seconds. Pick a language from the dropdown underneath and press Translate to get that text in another language immediately, no PDF required.

Can this translate photo text directly, without a PDF?

Yes — OCR reads the photo and a Translate button right under the extracted text turns it into another language immediately. A PDF is only needed if you want a translated document that keeps the original page layout.

Is my photo sent to a cloud OCR or translation service?

No. Both the text recognition and the translation run on our own hardware, with our own OCR engine and language model. Nothing leaves our servers, and files are deleted right after processing.

Which languages are supported?

OCR reads English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Portuguese and French. Translation covers English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, in any direction between them.

Is it free?

Yes — no account, no watermark. OCR and the text translation are both free with no daily cap; the PDF translator is free up to 25 pages per document, and a €5 ShinobiTools pass raises that to 100.
