Turn a phone photo into a real scan

A photo of a document is crooked, shadowed and framed by whatever was on the table. ScanReviver fixes that and gives you back something you can actually file, e-mail or print. No scanner, no app to install.

What we're actually seeing

We'd rather show real numbers than guess. Over the 46 days from 15 July to 29 August 2026, ScanReviver logged 4,185 page views from 302 real visitors (bots filtered out), spread across 34 countries — the US (34 visits) and China (29) are the two largest groups, everyone else in single digits. Of the people who tried to process a document, 24 uploads were turned away before they ever reached the cleanup step, and zero jobs failed partway through: the tool either says no upfront, with a reason, or it finishes. One recurring reason, logged twice in this window, was a PDF too long for the page limit — one attempt was 456 pages. The other kind of no we saw: someone uploading a document that was already a photo of text into a tool built for real, selectable text underneath. Neither is a bug. Both are the tool refusing to guess at something it genuinely can't do, and saying so instead of failing silently or half-finishing the job.

Crop & straighten

Detects the page edges and corrects the perspective, so a photo taken at an angle comes out square and flat.

Reduce shadows

Evens out the lighting and lifts the background toward white, so the shadow from your hand or the desk lamp is far less visible.

Colour, clean or B&W

Pick the cleanup that suits the document: keep it in full colour, whiten the paper for a scanned-in look with the colour intact, or crisp black & white for text pages.

Multi-page PDF

Add several pages and download them as one PDF, or grab a single clean JPG or PNG. An optional OCR text layer makes the PDF searchable (English, Dutch & German).

From phone photo to clean page

  1. Upload a photo or scan of your document (add more pages any time).
  2. We detect the page, clean it up and show you the result straight away.
  3. Download the clean JPG, PNG or PDF — or open "Corners not right? Adjust manually" first if it needs a nudge.
10 seconds, nothing cut: a phone photo of a page goes in and comes out straightened, cleaned up and ready as a PDF.

Questions about scanning

Which files can I upload?

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF and AVIF photos, up to 25 MB each and up to 30 pages per document. HEIC is the format an iPhone saves by default, so photos straight from an iPhone work without converting them first.

Is it really free?

Yes: no account, no watermark, no daily cap. The ads on the page are meant to keep the servers running. That is the whole model.

What happens to my document?

Your original upload is deleted right after processing. The cleaned result stays available for up to 45 minutes so you can download it, then it is deleted automatically, and you can also delete it immediately with the button on the result. Nothing is stored, shared or used to train anything.

Can it make the PDF searchable?

Optionally, yes. Tick the OCR box before downloading a PDF and a hidden text layer is added (English, Dutch and German), so you can select and search the text. It adds some processing time and is off by default.

Is it as good as a real scanner?

For most everyday documents in decent light it comes remarkably close, and it is a lot faster than finding a scanner. A dedicated scanner still wins on very dark shadows, glossy paper and fine detail. Very dark shadows, text covered by objects and severe blur may remain imperfect, so always check the result before relying on it.

Does it change the content of my document?

No. ScanReviver improves readability; it does not certify or authenticate documents, and it does not use generative AI to rewrite or invent content. It never fills in letters, changes numbers, edits dates or recreates signatures or stamps. Cleanup does adjust the image (contrast, colour or black & white), which is why you should always check the result before relying on it.
