A scan with a wide white border, a page footer you don't need, or margins that waste space when you print. Set how much to cut off each side as a percentage, name the pages if you only want some, and download it. Nothing is re-compressed — the pages themselves are untouched.
A PDF page carries a note that says which part of it should be shown — the crop box. Cropping here changes that note and nothing else: the text stays text, the images stay exactly the bytes they were, and a searchable scan stays searchable.
That also means the content outside the box is still in the file, the same way a PDF viewer can widen the view again. Cropping is for tidying a page's edges, not for permanently removing something sensitive — treat it like trimming a photo, not shredding a document.
A 10% margin looks the same on an A4 invoice and a US Letter form, and it scales itself on a document that mixes a portrait report with one landscape spreadsheet page in the middle. A fixed measurement in millimetres would eat a small page and barely touch a large one, so every margin here is a percentage of that page's own width or height.
Leave the pages box empty and every page gets the same margins. Type 3 and only page three is cropped; type 2,5-7 and it is page two plus pages five through seven. The rest of the document keeps its original size, untouched.

Cropped a page down to the wrong size? Run the download back through with smaller margins, or start again from your original — the margins are measured from the page as it currently is, so a second crop always cuts from what you see now.
